SPARKS TURKEY TROT FUN RUN/WALK EVENT TO BE HELD THANKSGIVING DAY AT SPARKS MARINA PARK
Sparks, NV - Start your Thanksgiving holiday off with a healthy run or walk at the 10th annual Turkey Trot event at the Sparks Marina Park on November 27. Choose from a non-timed 2 mile walk or run around the Marina and a 10K timed run that extends into the surrounding neighborhood. The first race begins at 8:30 a.m.

CITY OF SPARKS HONORED FOR INNOVATION
At today's City Council meeting, the Nevada League of Cities & Municipalities (NLC&M), which represents many diverse cities and municipalities around the state, presented the City of Sparks with the 2008 NLC&M Innovation Award for the construction of Golden Eagle Regional Park.

INTRODUCTORY HARP CLASS AVAILABLE THROUGH SPARKS PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
Sparks, NV - Learn the art of playing the harp by taking part in a new introductory class offered through the Sparks Parks and Recreation Department. Beverly Colgan, principal harpist for the Reno Philharmonic, will be teaching the course geared for ages 10 and older.

SPARKS LIBRARY TO HOST ART EXHIBIT FEATURING THE WORK OF LOCAL STUDENTS
Sparks, NV - The Sparks Library will host an art exhibit October 10 – November 26, featuring the work of students taking part in the City of Sparks' "Art Start" Watercolor class. Local award-winning artist, Marguerite Crokus, is the instructor for the monthly class. The art exhibit will include 12 pieces highlighting various watercolor styles and subject matter.  Additionally, Crokus will have some of her own work on display.

CITY OF SPARKS PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES CHANGE IN HOURS OF OPERATION
As a cost-saving measure due to current economic conditions, the City of Sparks Parks and Recreation Department will be implementing an alternative work schedule starting September 29. Recreation and administrative employees will switch to four 10-hour days, resulting in a change in the hours of operation, including Friday closures, at the following facilities:
