Civil Service

The City of Sparks Civil Service Commission was established in 1959 to provide qualified applicants for employment and to protect employees from discrimination or unfair treatment.
 
Civil Service Commission meetings are the second Wednesday of the month at 5:30 pm.  Agendas and other information can be found here.
 
Commissioners are City of Sparks residents who are appointed to three-year terms by the Mayor.  Present Civil Service Commissioners are:

    • Louis dauria, Commissioner

Civil Service is intended to protect employees from discharge, demotion, or suspension for political, religious, or other reasons such as personal animosity or preference.

After completion of probation, employees cannot be discharged, demoted, or suspended without valid reason, and may appeal such action to the Civil Service Commission.
